The Earth, once the shining gem of our Solar System, now wears a crown of metal and plastic. The remnants of a species more intent on progress than process. Someone needs to start the cleanup.
Harry Mitchell will be the first in a long line of Mitchells to venture into space. He’s a gruff old goat, estranged from just about everyone. The perfect man for the lonely job of clearing Earth’s Orbit of decades of accumulated junk, but a message from his daughter forces old regrets to surface and makes him doubt his choices. The unexpected arrival of Brad, a person that represents everything Harry detests, adds to his misery.
Unknown to Harry, Brad has his own agenda. And Harry is in the way.
The job of the Space Dustman is a dangerous one and when accidents happen, there’s nobody around to help.

I love space technology and space debris as well. I wanted to like this little story, but well the characters were very flat, not much character development at all. This is quite common for short stories however so I did enjoy the story to some degree. The ending wasn’t as predictable as I would have thought, so that was really good. The portrayal of the experience of being in space was great though. The vision and wonder of watching Earth go by was nice, as was some of the orbital mechanics. While I really enjoyed this story I didn’t give it a 5 because unless they are brilliant, I just never give short stories a 5. Not as much work goes into them as novels. There were also a couple of glaring spelling errors:
“He gave one last desperate pull ad his foot sprung free, his shoe flying off into the living quarters compartment.” The word needed was “and”.
"If the amateurs playing at terrorist wired it wrong in the first place, it makes it tricky to diffuse.” I think "defuse" was required there.
This is definitely a unique story that I think people will enjoy despite the flaws. Having said that, it is a short story. I would not pay over $3 for it as with the flaws, it isn’t worth more than a novel. If they were fixed, I think it would be worth the asking price.

The First Space Dustman The Space Salvager Chronicles Book 1 eBook K Mclachlan Reviews
This is one of those hidden gems that you find on . I love it ! and can't wait for the next adventure from a family that the writer has made seem real. This might turn out to be a classic find.
I must admit this was a very good short story. It held my interest until the final page. worth the price
Believable character-driven story in the not-too-distant future. Harry is the epitome of a loner working as the first space junk-collector based on a tiny space station. His solitude is interrupted by a new arrival who wants Harry to sell out his unprofitable claim. When Harry refuses, the tension between him and the newcomer ratchets up. I am looking forward to more stories from this author!
Well written, well edited, well ebooked. The geek gets tormented by the cool people but gets even.
a quirky little tale about all that crap floating around in space and getting in everyone’s way, not to mention quite a bit of it having some salvage value. Space is messy; someone’s got to clean it up. Harry Martin is part of a two-man salvage ship that he had to save up for in order to buy into it. But the salvage collected could be worth a pretty penny.
Somebody else is well aware of that his new partner. We get awfully suspicious of the new partner, since things begin to go fatally awry once he showed up. You’ve heard of karma? Yeah. The wheel goes round…
This is subtitled The Space Salvagers Chronicles, so I am assuming we can look for more tales of the cleaning crew.
I like the idea of some organization responsible for hauling in all those floating ham and cheese sandwiches that nobody wanted, and the odd parts from when stuff blows up. Clutter-free, that’s my style.
